The science
behind the protocol

Two decades of clinical experience is not the same thing as published evidence. The GAPS Science Foundation exists to close that gap — funding, running and publishing the research the protocol deserves.

Why a foundation

The GAPS protocol was built the way a great deal of medicine was built before it: from careful observation of what actually happened to patients. That is a legitimate starting point, and it is also not where the argument should end.

The GAPS Science Foundation was established to take the concept into the peer-reviewed literature — to fund studies, support independent researchers, and publish results whichever way they fall.

Clinical experience tells you something works. Research tells you why, for whom, and how reliably. The protocol needs both.

What we’re looking at

  • Microbiome composition before, during and after the protocol
  • Gut permeability and its relationship to neurological and immune symptoms
  • Outcomes in children with learning, behavioural and developmental diagnoses
  • Nutritional adequacy across the stages of the diet
  • The role of fermented foods and therapeutic-strength probiotics

Published work

  • Papers and reviewsPeer-reviewed publications from the Foundation and affiliated researchers

  • Case seriesDocumented clinical outcomes from certified practitioners

For the build: this needs the actual publication list — titles, authors, journals, DOIs and links. Once we have it, each entry becomes a proper citation rather than a category. If the Foundation keeps a reference library anywhere, that is the source to point at.

Support the research

The Foundation is funded by donation. Every study it runs, and every researcher it supports, depends on people who think this work is worth proving properly.
